I apologize in advance for talking about an Arabic song in English but thats my writing mood right now. Anyway, this is THE perfect song in my definition. I'm not sure if I had said that about songs in the past or not, but even if I did, this will still be the most perfect of all perfect songs. Music is a fusion between soft rock and Egyptian percussions. Let alone the lyrics which are shortened from an amazing blogger (read the full poem here) and sung in a Mawwal style. Simply amazing. I find the song so empowering. It fills me with energy and emotions.
I remember I heard that song for the first time in a concert in Sakyet El Sawy with friends like 3 years ago, a little before the revolution. It was also my first time to hear Massar Egbary in general and I fell in love. Oh.. let's not use love.. I hate that word. I mean to say, I think Massar Egbary are one of the coolest bands out there. Back to the song, when I first heard it, I stood there stunted. It had been ages since something moved me that strongly, or in other words, that's the first song that moved me so strongly since I stopped being moved. (There was a point when I was so emotional and could be moved by almost anything but then that stopped.. long story for another day perhaps).
Specially at the minute 3.38, the music entrance from the lyrics before where enough fuel to get me to dance, except this wasn't a dancing song, so it actually filled me with the "je ne sais pas quoi" which left me in amazement.
I went home, googled the lyrics and couldnt decide how I felt about the poet; the lyrics where filled with male chauvinism and pure love (yes the word I hate for lack of better alternative), should I feel sorry for the "her" or envy "her". But realized the guy was in love, and he was going through all those feelings of domination, ownership, self worth, as well as struggling with feelings of not being enough, being weak because of jealousy. He was begging yet putting conditions. He was confused. He was in love. And that's how one gets when they are in love, confused. I won't go dissecting any further so as not to ruin the song for you, dear readers, although I could go on for hours..
دِي نُقْطِةْ مَيَّه مِ الْمَطَرَهْ إِذَا فَاضِتْ ...
تِهِدّ السَّدّ
Enjoy it and do tell me what you think!
