And the Oscar goes to!

Some girls are born pretty. Some girls are born talented. But unfortunately she was not one of those lucky few. She was one of the millions who came to Hollywood hoping to be a star. She worked hard day after day memorizing all sorts of scripts and lines, and spent her nights working on dance steps in hope that one day she will be discovered. And after several years of small time jobs , and declined auditions, when she almost accepted that maybe she wasn't meant to be an actress after all, she met them. They not only produced but also advocated for a different type of movies; movies that had a message and value not just big blockbusters with no real moral. And just like fairy-tales, with them around, she made magic happen every single day. She looked up to them, and they believed in her. She would watch them do their daily routine with admiration and they taught her to discover her talents, and use her strength. Together, they worked as a team on several successful works. She was

Music does things to you

Music always has a magical effect on me; changing my mood instantly, particularly live music. Watching the musicians play and seeing their facial expressions as the musical notes come out of their instruments just puts me in a trance. A spell is put on me as I watch fingers pulling and pinching strings , or caressing the surface of the tabla or simply softly touching the keys of the piano. I feel the love between the musician and their instruments, I mean , see how they hold them, like their only child, like a precious jewel. And this love does things to me. Especially listening to the Oud, I love the Oud, but you know that already. At last night's concert, as I heard the music coming out Marcel Khaleefa's Oud with this peaceful and serene look on his face, and all sorts of memories came back. I remembered our first concert together; how you held my hand as we heard Naseer's Oud, and how he winked at us when he saw us smiling. I remembered how so in love we used to be then

Days like this

We all do stupid things all the time; things that make us look like idiots, things that we don't realize are stupid until they come later in our lives to haunt us, things that affect our lives , careers, relationships,...etc. But all that is fine, as long as you're only affecting yourself. The problem comes when you do stupid things and these stupid things hurt people; especially people you care about. The worst kind of stupid things is the kind that you feel so hurt when it happens to you and you really wish it never happens to anyone you know and then you realize you just did that to one of your closest friend. Days like this are really horrible, and you feel so insignificantly small and in a way scared, like that whole day is a nightmare that you wish would just end. You feel like you want to go to a corner and cry make it go away, because you've been there before, you've had that exact pain before, and you yourself gave it to someone else. You become the scary monst

Toothpaste and other random stuff

Toothpaste One of the frequent occurring problems with traveling , is when you forget your toothpaste. See, in most decent hotels, you usually find little bottles of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner but I haven't came across a hotel yet, that places a tube of toothpaste. I'm sure the entire mankind will be grateful to the hotel chain that starts this trend. The closest to toothpaste I got was in my last trip to Dubai , where Burjuman Rotana hotel paced a bottle of mouth wash. Close enough... but I pray for toothpaste in hotels, one day! Waking up in the morning I always believed, and apparently so do many people, that the hardest part of the day is getting out of bed in the morning. Dreamers are satisfied by setting a major goal in life, like for instance "I will find a cure for cancer" or "I will bring all the world to peace". They wake up by reminding themselves; "Today, I'm one day closer to achieving it". Ambitious Realists think that i

This night

Not being able to sleep, he goes to the tiny balcony in his hotel room, feeling suffocated indoors. As he lights his cigarette, he sees her light on, and hesitates, but after finishing that cigarette, he decided he'll give her a call. She didn't pick up at first, so he sent her an sms "Pick up! I know you're not sleeping" and he called again. She picks up and says "Actually, I was NOT awake" , in a very sleepy voice. "Lair! I see your light on and I know you can only sleep in the dark." "Again, it's not on. You must have confused my room with another one" "Uuuggh... sorry..really sorry" "Is everything ok?" "Uhm, well , yeah! It's just that I was thinking about our meeting earlier this morning and I .."stopping to realize he was saying alot of rubbish and thinking to himself that there must be something he can talk about other than the meeting "You were thinking about the meeting at 2 a.m.?&qu
