On the way to work this morning, after parking my car , walking to the office building, I came across a hunchback in a white galabeya, holding a transparent plastic bag of groceries, and a big musehaf of Quran. I usually tend to stay away from people, but from the corner of my eye, I was watching him. He was so pleasant, in his white spotless galabeya and with a big smile, talking to all the men on the street, not the ladies out of courtesy. He was no beggar, contrary to what I thought at first, nor was he the "I am holier than thou" preacher. He was just a nice guy with a big smile, wishing everyone on the street happiness and good health. And when asked about his own health or affairs, he just smiled and said "Thank God". In my opinion, this hunchback is the best example of a religious Muslim. He's not going around preaching people , yet he is setting an excellent example of his beliefs that we, Muslims, should concentrate on; that is good manners. How hard is that! If this is actually the real him, I wish him all the best in this life and the next.
However, since I broke my own code of ethics and actually mentioned religion on my blog, I have to mention one of my favorite hadith's of the profit (prayers be upon him)
"اتق الله حيثما كنت و اتبع الحسنة السيئة تمحها و خالق الناس بخلق حسن"
The first part, is between you and yourself, one has to be pious , and that is something only you would know. The second part is about doing good, even if you did bad, that is between you and God, and only God would know about it. And finally , is treating people well, and although this is the part that is most apparent to people and that forms a cornerstone in building a healthy community, this is the part that is most ignored.
That's why I admire the smiling hunchback!
Have a wonderful morning to you, everyone!
