I went on a trip with my family to Portugal, left on a Saturday, got sick Sunday with a bad flu, Monday it became a major influenza and by Wednesday I had fever (btw.. i never get fevers.. even when i'm really really sick.. cold blooded).
Previous to the fever, I had been having trouble sleeping (sooo unlike me) and head really bad headaches (that one is very like me.. i get headaches when i'm tense ) But on that Wednesday I got so tired I was not even capable of moving. Although I was pretending to be okay, going out on expeditions and all so as not to ruin my vacation by getting sick, that afternoon I had to give in. I lay in bed, reading the book I had gone half way through in the airplane The City of the dreaming books, and I started Hallucinating!
It was scary... it was like my mind was racing against time... I was trying to make a du3aa to Allah, and in the middle of each sentence, words came out of my mind for the closure speech for my ex , then I got distracted by the voice of Peter Jones as the book from Hitch-Hicker's Guide to the Galaxy audio and the text from the city of the dreaming books, and thinking of the map of Portugal.. getting lost in a country when you don't know the language is a very bad thing.. and thoughts about my family. All these came at the same time..and that was so painful.. I couldn't fight it anymore and gave in to a peaceful long sleep.
My sleeping problems were solved after that night.. the fever gradually decreased.. I'm still coughing but that's okay I guess... but the most important thing after that night is that although I decided not to do the closure speech... I'm at peace with myself. And I am learning to enjoy the new slow pace of actionless days around me.
Anyway.. I leave you with 3 of my favorite quotes from The city of the dreaming books.
"Reading is an intelligent way of not having to think"
"Writing is a desperate attempt to extract some dignity -and a modicum of money- from solitude"
"Curiosity is the most powerful incentive in the world. Why? Because it's capable of overcoming the two most powerful disincentives in the world" common sense and fear"
