A couple of weeks back, my manager/mentor/friend R mentioned a very interesting conclusion about aquarian women (his wife is an aquarian too), which I haven't noticed before. He thinks that we , aquarian women, are very good planners when it comes to either short term plans or really long term plans. The problem is, we don't have any sense of planning things in the middle.
Short term like a day or a week ahead is easy, well planned and probably the preparation for the plan is being executed as we speak. Let me give you an example, what are my plans for the weekend? That's easy! I can give you a detailed plan with options, timing, pros and cons of each alternative , a budget and a list of contact persons, just off the top of my head. It comes naturally to me.
Really long term like years ahead in easy ,too. For example, what are my life plans or what do I want to do when I'm 30? Easy..I'd like to keep them to myself for now...but really really easy! The tricky part is when you ask me, what are your plans for summer. I really don't have an answer. I have random unrelated options that may or may not be feasible in the first place.
See, last night, a friend called me, since we're trying to arrange a girlie getaway sometime this summer. I realized I was shocked. I mean, I probably sounded so unenthusiastic that I think it might have appeared a bit rude. But really, it was just so way out of my comfort zone that I couldn't react. I ruled out the dates that I was sure I can't make it (family obligations, work deliverables and exams) and left the rest to her best judgment and everyone else's available time slots. That being said, there is no guarantee , at all, that this *plan* will work, cause my parents might say no, or some work related matter may come up or I might be in a wrong mood and just not up to it or for the love of God, I might even have met prince charming and would rather spend the time with him than go swimming with the girls. You can argue that prince charming might appear today and ruin my plans for the weekend, but I'd argue back that that's very unlikely, since I have today all planned , and these plans don't include any chance of meeting anyone new!
Anyway, that being said, when R said his conclusion , I realized I have learned something new about myself that I never knew before. And knowing that I lack skills in middle-term planning, I'd expect all the surprises and cool stuff to happen in the middle-term, does this make any sense? Again, having said that, I don't really do well with surprises, so I guess I still have to figure it out. Any suggestions?
