Memoris of a confused muhajaba

She went to a party, met her childhood friends and smiled at how this ironic life sent each of them on a separate route. She usually found some good excuse to find a way out of parties, but this time she had to go. With her hijab on for 5 years now, she felt so out of place at parties ; she was either the only muhajaba around or one of a minority.

This party was very fancy, everything was set right, and she had tons of fun meeting those friends of her. But it brought back memories of her party days, which she has been missing for sometime now. She was also thinking of him, how wonderful it would have been had he been there with her, but, you don't always get what you want, and life goes on.

She goes home wondering what life would have been like if she hadn't had her hijab on, would her character have differed? Would she have had the same job? the same friends now? the same taste in clothes? music? men? will she have loved him?

She takes off her hijab, and her long dress, but keeps her high heels on. She opens her wardrobe and takes out a skimpy dress, which she owned 5 years ago (which has been a total knock out in the past, but is way beyond unfashionable now), lets her hair down, and puts on a pair of chandelier earrings. She looks at the mirror, not familiar with the person she sees looking back at her. She looks again and wonders; will he love her if she looked like that?

She takes off the dress, the earring and the shoes, puts on her baggy pants pajamas, with the hoodie top, braids her hair and goes back to bed. She thinks of him but smiles to herself : at least I got the body to pull it off if I need to.

I think it's those questions she needs to answer.
Would she have been a different person? Or more to the point, a "worse" person?
If not, then what's the point?

I'll keep my views on the subject for myself.

what is a party life ? a few moments of joy then tears and mess most of the time ,what would happen if he was there ?a limited time of pleasure ,but then what after? I had both lifes with and without hijab and i can tell that hijab brought me the most important things in life :peace and serenity...

Reflections on tolerance , intelligence and beauty

Tolerance I find it really interesting how many people who claim themselves open-minded , sophisticated , cultured and well-read would use the word "tolerance" to justify socially unacceptable behavior or ideologies. They would claim themselves tolerant to different religious/spiritual views, to taboo topics, eccentric friends ,...etc and even preach the more reserved about tolerating and accepting others. Yet, these very "tolerant" people would not even remotely accept a conservative or religious person. A girl I know , to prove her so-called tolerance would always preach "Guys, you should always be more tolerant. Take things easier. The world is very diverse and we should learn to accept each other. For one, I learned to cope with things; I even lived with a gay flat-mate when I lived in the US and I have friends of all faiths." This same girl, when talking to me about my own brother would still say "I can't stand how those so called religious...

Privacy Issues

Last night, I was having dinner with the OC gang when Mardini decided to pop the question that everyone seems to be talking about these days, "who would you vote for in the presidential elections?". When it was my turn to answer I said "I don't share my political opinions" which apparently threw some  off balance. Meyo and Zei understood perfectly well and gave me acknowledging looks that they respect my "no share" zone. Toulan on the other hand, at first, gave me the raised eyebrow for a minute then said "Ya zeww, ya3ni you share everything but don't share your political opinions". Naturally, he was referring to this blog. The thing is, everyone has some issues they consider private, yes, even me! Maybe to you readers, it's  natural to assume one's romantic life is private or that one's thoughts and feelings are private. For me honestly, these are not an issue. I mean, privacy, like everything else, is relative! To me, 3 ...
