Below are a number of random drafts that I wrote down with the intention of completing at some point but never did. I quickly edited them and posted them here.
Ramadan Effect
Peace and calmness are the first effects of Tarawee7. Like a long lost friend that one's really happy to meet. But with Ramadan, comes a lot of annoying commitments, like routine family gatherings and headaches. I enjoy experimenting with new recipes and it makes my day when I find that people actually like them. I hate the Ramadan traffic, especially this year that work is so far from home. I'm looking forward to going to "El Leila el Kebeera" in wekalet el ghory, an annual tradition I started a couple of Ramadan's ago. I feel extatic seeing the "fanous" shops with all those colorful designs; so I changed my status name on facebook to "Yasmine is a glittery fanous on a starry Ramadan night!". It feels quite festive.
My newest Ramadan trends...gym after Tarawee7.. how cool is that!
High school nostalgia
A couple of days ago when my mum was spring-cleaning/ moving the furniture around/ re-organizing the entire apartment (which she does several times during the year.. yeah , I know, very high Ku this woman).
Anyway, she came across my high-school/ first year in university storage box which had my old wallet in it. In that old wallet, I found pictures of my friends ( which I am pretty sure I can blackmail them with), pictures of my high-school sweetheart and I, his baby pictures and my high school best friend/first significant male friend's pictures and baby pictures, and yes, the most innocent, yet hilarious, love letter by the boyfriend.
Naturally this led to a very nostalgic mood , so I brought out the rest of the pictures and watched myself looking young and foolish, yet incredibly happy. Those were the best days for me; some people had it in college, but I peaked in high school. Ahh.. those were the days my friend
Work afternoon discussions
Another interesting trend that's been going on before Ramadan are the 5 o'clock conversations that Meyo, Boody and I have. We talk about everything from nonsense to philosophical and idealogical matters. Through these conversations I realized/ found out:
- discombobulation is actually a word, it means " a feeling of embarrassment that leaves you confused " according to google web definitions.

- There actually is a nerd test to which I scored 84%
- That through Vodafone and Mobinil ratings; the most visited websites through 3G in Egypt are porn sites. Yes on mobile phones!
- That the favorite book on facebook for Egyptians is actually the Quraan. Mind you, I fail to see why people would compare it to other books or bother to list it on facebook, but it might be one of the following reasons (1- trying to impress someone by pretending to be religious, or 2- the only "book" they own)
- That although I personally believe in freedom of thought and freedom of religion; I came to realize that "freedom of action" has its constraints for me. I mean , you can do whatever you like, just when I am not around. It honestly scared me that I felt this way, since I always argued I was being unprejudiced and non-judgmental but my only consolation is that, I still want everyone to do as they pleased.. as long as I don't have to be part of what I don't agree with.
- Going through a very long conversation regarding social pressure, "الافكار المعلبة"and how we come to create our own thoughts and believes, I reached the following two conclusions:
- It's hard enough to deal with society's objections towards what I think is right, so I try not to deal with their objections towards what I think is wrong.
- I feel so pissed off that I have to have a health/religous/logical reason for not wanting to do any particular thing. Why can't people just accept that I "dont want to" do or that I "dont have fun" doing it!
- Some things dont really have a reason.. like why is my purple totty fruity bag so cheerful, why my favorite colors are turquoise and mauve and why is someone my friend.. they just are!
