Of Extinct Animals

I posted this on Facebook, saving here for safekeeping.

I'm obsessed with extinct animals lately. Not the animals themselves of course, I'm no zoologist, but the concept of going extinct and how it must feel. I don't think it happened by chance, I mean the animals must have known; wether they didn't catch Noah's ark or froze in an ice age, they must have known.

I imagine the following scenario, (and please ignore my historical mistakes of who got extinct first, as I didn't bother do any studies):

The mammoth rests in some cave with his Mrs, after a very long walk. He looked her in the eyes and said, "Sa3deya, I can't take it anymore. We've been moving for ages, continent after continent, looking for dry land. And don't you tell me we have to adapt and evolve. We've even learned to swim and we changed our diet multiples times according to the available vegetation.

"Ya 7amdy, 7aram eli enta bet2oolo da" she said back, "Are you giving up? After all we've been through? Khalas el farag 2arab. I can feel it"

"Sa3deya., you still believe in this shit. That's the 100th time you've said that in the last 5 years. It's all a lie. The ark, the dry land..all made up."

"7amdy, I was just chatting with Om Nagy wife of Med7at the rhinoceros, and she heard from 3adeyat the eagle whose husband saw Sayed 2eshta and his family reaching dry land, while flying over"

"Sa3deya. Kefaya sazaga ba2a. Both you and I know this isn't true."

"Tab balash 3ashana ya 7amdy. Think of all the future generations of mammoths."

"We haven't had any in over 10 years ya sa3deya. Foo2i ba2a. We're only delaying the agony."

She looked at him with her eyes full of tears and only sighed "7amdy.."

"Bossi ya Sa3deya.  The Dodo got extinct when it couldnt evolve wings to fly; the poor thing was sitting f 7alha, la beeha wala 3aleeha, and suddenly army's of crocodiles took over the lakes where the Dodos lived. They tried and fought and everything but they failed. The ground sloths, they too got extinct; although they survived many things, when the humans came, they hunt them down and now they're gone. And the saber-tooth. They tried and tried, but it was time. The dinosaurs, too! We've seen our friends go one by one ya Sa3deya."

She says nothing but looks at him. She knows he's right.

" The newer animals are much faster,  and manoeuvre way better. Tigers, Leopards, monkeys. Even ducks for God's sake." And he pauses for a second, "I have heard that there are new things called elephants now, which look like us but smaller and faster. "

Sa3deya lets out a small scream then covers her mouth with eyes full of tears. "Then its true! el bet 3enayat the gorilla told me she saw them and I thought she was only saying that to annoy me. "

7amdy looks to the floor.

"What do we do ya 7amdy? "

"I think it's time to let go." And he takes her in  his arms, as they both lay on the floor, " you are the most gorgeous female any male can dream of ya Sa3deya. Enti gada3a, w 7amoola, w sett el settat. And it has been my honour that you chose me to spend your life with." He kisses her on the forehead.

And in a Titanic-like scene, the water of the ice-age breaks through the cave, floods it and we see them holding hands while the waves rush over them, over the rocks, over the mountain where the cave used to be. And we see the sunsets and an African soundtrack plays with new animals being born and the circle of life moves on.

When Love Died

Yes, love died, about a year ago. No body knows exactly when, but it was sometimes early September or late August. Can you imagine something as big as love dying and no one noticing? Well, people did notice, in a way or another, but rather they couldn't possibly imagine that love , could in fact, die! For some, it changed into other feelings; feelings that could have usually be confused with love - lust, possessiveness , compassion, familiarity, kindness, fear of loneliness or even instinctive protectiveness. But there are a few people who are still lost at see with the void that death of love left behind. They struggle to find meaning. They... Ah well,.. Here are some stories from these people: Scene 4 Greenwich Wednesday, September 4th, 2014 It wasn't very rainy that day, unlike the rest of the week, so Tom thought that today has to be the day. He stopped at Marks and Spenser's on the way to class to pick up some flowers and concealed them cleverly. The day w
